Kuwait CV Format (2026): Photo, Residence Status, Accreditation and Sample

By EZProCV Editorial Team · Updated

This guide covers the Kuwait CV format for expatriates already in Kuwait, candidates applying from abroad, and Kuwaiti nationals targeting private-sector and government-linked employers in Kuwait City, Ahmadi, Hawalli, Farwaniya and Jahra.

Kuwaiti recruiters care about three practical things before they read your achievements: your nationality, your residence status and whether your job title and degree will line up with the work permit. Put those at the top, then give them a clean, two-page CV built from one of our ATS-friendly templates.

Quick answer: A Kuwaiti CV is usually two A4 pages in English with a professional photo, your nationality, residence or visa status and notice period in the header. Then add a short profile, quantified experience, education with attestation status, professional accreditation, skills and languages. Leave out religion and ID numbers, and make sure your job titles match your degree and the occupation you're applying for.

What personal details does a Kuwaiti CV need?

Like the rest of the Gulf, Kuwait expects more personal information in the CV header than Western markets, but there are clear limits.

Detail Include? Notes
Photo Usually yes Recent, professional headshot
Nationality Yes Affects visa and Kuwaitization decisions
Residence or visa status Yes Shows whether you can move employers quickly
Notice period Yes Or Available immediately
Date of birth / age Optional Include if the ad asks
Marital status Optional Most candidates leave it off
Religion No Not relevant to the application
Civil ID or passport number No Provide on official forms after an offer

EZProCV includes optional Gulf fields for photo, nationality, visa status and notice period, so you can keep one master CV and switch these on for Kuwait applications.

Photo and contact details

If you add a photo, use a recent head-and-shoulders shot with a plain, light background, business attire and good lighting. Avoid selfies, group crops, sunglasses and heavy filters. Keep it small, in the top corner of page one.

Give one mobile number with the country code, and say if it's on WhatsApp, since many Gulf recruiters message candidates there first. Use an email address based on your name, not a nickname or an old school account.

Sample professional summary

Mechanical engineer with 8 years in HVAC design and site supervision for commercial towers, hospitals and schools in Kuwait and India. Delivered MEP packages worth up to KWD 3M, led teams of 25 technicians and cut commissioning snags by 30% through stricter pre-handover checks. Kuwait Society of Engineers accreditation approved; available on one month's notice.

A summary like this answers the recruiter's main questions in four lines: what you do, where you've done it, at what scale, and whether you can be hired.

How to describe your residence and transfer status

In Kuwait, expatriate residence is issued through the Ministry of Interior's residence affairs department (moi.gov.kw), and private-sector work permits are handled by the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM). Expatriates often refer to private-sector work residence as "Article 18."

Write your status in words a recruiter understands at a glance:

Your situation What to write
Expatriate on private-sector work residence, eligible to transfer Residence: Private-sector work residence (transferable)
Transfer eligibility not yet checked Residence: Valid until Jun 2027
Family (dependent) residence Residence: Dependent residence (family)
Outside Kuwait Visa status: Requires work visa
Kuwaiti national Nationality: Kuwaiti
GCC national Nationality: Bahraini (GCC national)

Only write "transferable" once you've confirmed it. Whether you can move to a new employer, and when, depends on your current permit and the rules in force, which PAM sets and updates. Check PAM's official channels or ask the hiring company's HR team before you resign (as of October 2026).

Job titles, degrees, attestation and engineering accreditation

Kuwaiti work permits are issued for a specific occupation, so the titles on your CV should be consistent with your degree and the role you're applying for. A candidate with a diploma applying as Engineer, or a degree holder listed as Technician, can create problems later in the permit process.

Degree attestation

Employers commonly ask for degree certificates attested in the country of issue and then for use in Kuwait. Start the process early, because it can take weeks. On your CV, a short note is enough:

BEng Mechanical Engineering, Anna University, India, 2016 (attested for Kuwait)

Engineering accreditation

Engineers in Kuwait are commonly asked for accreditation from the Kuwait Society of Engineers before a permit is issued under an engineering title. Requirements depend on your university and specialization, so confirm them with your employer. Show your status:

Kuwait Society of Engineers accreditation: approved

Healthcare and other licensed roles

Doctors, nurses, pharmacists and allied health staff need a license from the Kuwaiti health authorities before practicing. Put your home-country registration and any Kuwait licensing status in Certifications.

Kuwaitization, Arabic and the public sector

Kuwait has long prioritized employment of its nationals, especially in government and the wider public sector, and many public-sector posts are open only to Kuwaitis. Private-sector employers also face policies aimed at increasing national employment. If an ad is limited to Kuwaiti nationals, an expatriate application won't progress.

If you're Kuwaiti, state Nationality: Kuwaiti in your header and add national training programs, internships or scholarships.

Arabic

English is the working language for many roles in oil and gas, engineering, healthcare, banking and IT. Arabic is a strong advantage for customer-facing, legal, HR and government relations roles. List both with honest levels:

Languages: English (Fluent), Malayalam (Native), Arabic (Conversational)

If an employer asks for an Arabic CV, have it prepared or checked by a fluent professional and keep names, titles and dates identical to the English version.

Fresh graduates

If you've just graduated from Kuwait University, a private university in Kuwait or a university abroad, keep your CV to one page. Lead with education, then internships, graduation projects, volunteer work and part-time jobs. Give your GPA with its scale if it's strong, and list software, lab or design tools you've actually used. Expatriate graduates raised in Kuwait should still state nationality and residence status, since they affect whether an employer can hire them.

Where Kuwait jobs are advertised and how recruiters screen

Expatriates commonly find Kuwaiti roles through LinkedIn, Gulf job boards such as Bayt, GulfTalent and NaukriGulf, recruitment agencies, company careers sites and referrals, which matter a great deal in a small, relationship-driven market. Larger employers use an applicant tracking system (ATS) to store and search CVs.

What Kuwaiti recruiters scan for:

  1. Job title and degree that match the role and the permit.
  2. Kuwait or GCC experience.
  3. Residence status and notice period.
  4. Accreditation or licensing for regulated roles.
  5. Quantified results: project values, uptime, cost savings, headcount.

Sample bullet points

Designed HVAC systems for a 22-floor commercial tower in Kuwait City, reducing chiller capacity by 12% through load optimization.

Coordinated 4 MEP subcontractors and 60 site staff to hand over a 300-unit residential project 3 weeks ahead of schedule.

Use a single-column layout and standard headings so the ATS can read it; our ATS-friendly resume guide explains the rules.

Cover letters and applying from abroad

A short cover email helps, especially from abroad. State the role, your strongest match and your logistics in three or four sentences:

I'm applying for the HVAC Engineer role at your Kuwait City office. I have seven years designing hospital and commercial HVAC systems in India and Oman, and my degree is attested. I can join within 45 days of an offer and will require a work visa.

Before you apply from abroad:

  • Start degree attestation and check whether your occupation needs accreditation.
  • Check your own government's emigration rules (for example, India's eMigrate).
  • Never pay a recruiter or agent for a visa; the employer sponsors it.
  • Confirm the job on the company's official website or main phone line.

If you're applying across the Gulf, compare our Saudi Arabia CV format, Qatar CV format and UAE resume format guides. For a full letter, see how to write a cover letter that gets read.

Do's and don'ts

Do

  • Put nationality, residence status and notice period at the top.
  • Keep job titles consistent with your degree and the occupation you're applying for.
  • Note degree attestation and engineering or healthcare accreditation status.
  • Use a recent, professional photo.
  • Quantify results in KWD or USD, percentages and headcount.
  • Mention any Kuwait driving license for field and sales roles.
  • Ask HR to confirm transfer eligibility before you resign.

Don't

  • Don't claim a transferable residence you haven't confirmed.
  • Don't include religion, civil ID number or passport number.
  • Don't inflate titles beyond what your documents support.
  • Don't apply to roles reserved for Kuwaiti nationals as an expatriate.
  • Don't send a three-column, graphics-heavy CV that an ATS can't parse.
  • Don't pay anyone for a visa or job placement.

Frequently asked questions

A photo isn't legally required, but it's common on Kuwaiti CVs and many recruiters expect one. Use a recent, professional headshot with a plain background and business attire. If a multinational's careers site asks you not to include photos, follow its instructions; otherwise, a Kuwait CV with a photo is the safer choice.
"Article 18" is the common name for private-sector work residence in Kuwait. Mentioning it is fine, but plain language is clearer: Residence: Private-sector work residence (transferable). Recruiters mainly want to know whether you're already in Kuwait and whether you can move to them without a new visa from abroad.
No. Your civil ID number is sensitive and isn't needed to shortlist you. Employers ask for it, along with passport details, on official forms once they're processing an offer or a transfer. Keep it off any CV you upload to job boards or share with agencies.
Two A4 pages fits most candidates. Fresh graduates can use one page. Senior engineers and project managers with long project lists can stretch slightly, but it's usually better to summarize older roles in one line each and keep the detail for the last 10 years.
You can attend interviews while visiting, but you can't work without the correct permit and residence, and rules on converting visit visas change. Write your real status on your CV, such as Currently in Kuwait on a visit visa until Dec 2026; requires work visa, and check current rules with official channels before relying on any conversion.
Not for many roles in engineering, healthcare, oil and gas, IT and banking, where English is the working language. Arabic is often required or strongly preferred for customer-facing, legal, HR and government relations roles. List any Arabic you have with an honest level; even conversational Arabic can set you apart.
