Free Resume.io Alternative: EZProCV vs Resume.io (2026)

By EZProCV Editorial Team · Updated

Resume.io is a polished builder with a large example library, but its free plan is narrow: one resume, one cover letter and, on the pricing page, TXT downloads only. If you're searching for a Resume.io alternative, you probably want a designed PDF without starting a trial that renews every 4 weeks. This page compares the two tools using what Resume.io publishes on its own pricing page and help center as of 18 October 2026.

EZProCV is our product, so we've been careful: each Resume.io detail below comes from a Resume.io page listed in the sources, and we're clear about where Resume.io does more. It has AI writing, an ATS scorer, many interface languages and a set of job-search services. EZProCV is simpler: a free resume and cover letter builder with ATS-friendly templates and a text-based PDF download.

Quick answer: EZProCV is a free Resume.io alternative for a formatted PDF without a subscription. Resume.io's free plan covers one resume and one cover letter, with TXT downloads (its help center also mentions a free PDF in one template). Full access costs €2.95 for 7 days, then €24.95 every 4 weeks. Resume.io is stronger on AI tools, ATS scoring and job-search services; EZProCV has none.

Pricing compared

EZProCV

Free. Build a resume and a cover letter, then download a text-based PDF at no cost. There's no trial to start and no watermark on the file, so there's no renewal date to watch.

Resume.io

Free plan: €0. One resume and one cover letter, TXT downloads and limited sharing and analytics (the help center adds a free PDF in the Vancouver template). 7-day trial: €2.95, then it auto-renews at €24.95 billed every 4 weeks. Quarterly: €49.95, auto-renewing every 3 months. Both paid plans include unlimited resumes, cover letters and PDF downloads, with a 7-day money-back period. Prices were shown to us in euros; Resume.io's help center says plans can vary by location.

Where Resume.io is stronger

  • AI writing help. Resume.io has an AI resume builder, AI-powered sample sentences for hundreds of job titles, and AI that can draft a cover letter from your resume. EZProCV has no AI writing or suggestions.
  • An ATS scorer. Resume.io's checker page says its basic resume grader is free and returns a full review, an ATS score and tips. EZProCV has no ATS checker.
  • Job-search services. The homepage lists a job board, auto apply, interview prep, a salary analyzer and one-to-one coaching. EZProCV is a document builder only.
  • Many languages. The help center lists 20+ builder languages, including Dutch, Polish, Romanian and Vietnamese, plus 26 local sites.
  • Word downloads. Premium users can export many templates to DOCX as well as PDF.

Where EZProCV is stronger

  • A formatted PDF for free. EZProCV's free download is a text-based PDF in the template you choose. Resume.io's free plan is TXT, or a PDF in one template according to its help center.
  • No 4-weekly renewal. You don't start a trial to download from EZProCV, so there's no €24.95 charge to cancel.
  • Gulf-ready fields. Optional photo, nationality, visa status and notice period fields help with applications in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the rest of the Gulf.
  • Import, preview, share. Import a PDF or DOCX resume, edit it with a live preview that matches the downloaded file, and share it with a link.

Who should choose Resume.io, and who should choose EZProCV?

Resume.io is the better fit if you

  • want AI to produce a first draft of your resume and cover letter
  • want an ATS score and improvement tips before you apply
  • need DOCX files, or a builder in a language such as Greek, Hungarian or Afrikaans
  • would use extras like auto apply, a job board or coaching during an active search

EZProCV is the better fit if you

  • want to write your own content and get a clean, ATS-friendly PDF without paying
  • are applying in the Gulf and need nationality, visa status and notice period on the page
  • don't want a trial that turns into a subscription billed every 4 weeks
  • are a student or between jobs and need a reliable free tool

If you do use AI drafting on any platform, edit the result so it describes what you actually did. Recruiters ask about it in interviews.

How to switch from Resume.io to EZProCV

  1. Export your resume from Resume.io. Premium users can download a PDF or DOCX. Free users can export TXT, or a PDF in the Vancouver template if it's offered on your account.
  2. Import it into EZProCV. EZProCV imports PDF and DOCX files. If you only have a TXT file, open it and paste each section into the CV maker.
  3. Choose a template. Pick one of the ATS-friendly templates and adjust fonts, colors and spacing while watching the live preview.
  4. Move your cover letter. Paste it into the cover letter builder and match its fonts and colors to your resume.
  5. Cancel Resume.io if you're on a trial or subscription. Its help center says you can cancel from the Cancel Subscription tab on its contact page, or from Account Settings in the app. After cancelling, premium access lasts 30 days from your last monthly payment or 7 days from your last trial payment.

After importing, read every line. Check dates, bullet points and any accented characters.

Templates, file formats and ATS

An applicant tracking system (ATS) is the software employers use to receive and search applications. It works best with files whose text can be selected and read, using standard headings and a simple layout.

Resume.io's help center names a group of templates optimized for ATS (Athens, Brussels, Prague and Shanghai), and many templates also export to DOCX. EZProCV's templates are built to be ATS-friendly, and every download is a text-based PDF, so the file a recruiter opens is the same one the ATS reads.

A TXT file, which is what Resume.io's free plan provides, is readable by any system but has no layout. That's fine for pasting into an online form, but you'd need to format it yourself before emailing it to a person. For a step-by-step check of your file, see our guide to making your resume ATS-friendly.

Verdict

Resume.io does more than EZProCV: AI drafting, an ATS scorer, DOCX exports, 20+ builder languages and a suite of job-search services. If you'll use those, paying €2.95 for the trial and then €24.95 every 4 weeks can make sense, as long as you cancel when you're done. If you want to write your own resume and get a formatted, ATS-friendly PDF without a subscription, EZProCV is the simpler Resume.io alternative: free to build and download, with import, a share link and optional Gulf fields.

Frequently asked questions

There's a free plan, but it's limited. Resume.io's pricing page says it covers one resume and one cover letter, with TXT downloads and limited sharing. Its help center adds that free users can download a PDF in the Vancouver template. Other templates and unlimited PDF downloads need a paid plan.
Yes. The pricing page says the €2.95 7-day trial auto-renews at €24.95 billed every 4 weeks, and the quarterly plan renews at €49.95 every 3 months. The help center also describes one-time payments in some countries that don't renew, so check which plans you're offered at checkout.
No. EZProCV doesn't score or scan resumes. Its templates are ATS-friendly and the download is a text-based PDF that applicant tracking systems can read, but if you want an automated score, Resume.io's free basic grader is an option. Our ATS guide explains how to check a file yourself.
Yes, if you have a PDF or DOCX copy. EZProCV imports both formats. If you're on Resume.io's free plan and only have a TXT file, open it and paste each section into EZProCV. Either way, check the formatting of dates and bullet points afterwards.
Not necessarily. We saw prices in euros when we checked on 18 October 2026, and Resume.io's help center says its pricing plans can vary by location. Check the price shown on its pricing page or at checkout before you start a trial.
EZProCV has optional fields for a photo, nationality, visa status and notice period, which Gulf CVs often include. Resume.io supports photos on many templates, but we didn't find dedicated fields for the others. See our guide to the Qatar CV format for what to include.
