Teacher Resume Example (2026): Template, Summary and Skills

By EZProCV Editorial Team · Updated

This teacher resume example is for K–12 classroom teachers, from new graduates finishing student teaching to department chairs. It includes a complete sample resume as plain text, summaries for three career stages, before-and-after bullets, the skills and keywords school districts screen for, and how teacher CVs change in the UK, the Gulf and India.

Principals and hiring committees read teacher resumes for three things: are you certified for this subject and grade band, can you manage a classroom, and do your students learn? A list of duties ("planned lessons, graded tests") answers none of them. Evidence does: class sizes, programs you built and the student growth that followed.

Openings come mainly from turnover. For high school teachers, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects little or no change in employment from 2025 to 2035 but about 63,500 openings a year, and reports a median annual pay of $72,040 in May 2025 (BLS).

Quick answer: A strong teacher resume opens with your certification, grade levels and subjects, then a short summary that names your teaching context and one measurable student result. Experience bullets should show outcomes such as assessment growth, pass rates, attendance or family engagement, not just duties. Keep it to one or two pages, list licenses with endorsements, and mirror the district's keywords.

What should a teacher resume include?

Order the page so a principal can confirm fit in seconds:

  1. Header: name, city, phone, email, and a link to a teaching portfolio if you have one.
  2. Certification: state, license type, subjects and grade bands, plus endorsements such as ESL or special education.
  3. Summary: subject, grade levels, years, school context and one student result.
  4. Teaching experience: school, grade levels, courses and class sizes, then 3–6 results-focused bullets.
  5. Education: degrees, plus student teaching if you are new.
  6. Skills: instructional methods, technology and languages.
  7. Optional: coaching, clubs, committees and professional development.

The BLS names communication, patience and resourcefulness as important qualities for high school teachers. Show them in action: the family outreach you ran, the struggling group you retaught, the lab you built with no budget.

How do you write a teacher resume summary?

Use subject and grades + years + school context + one result + certification.

Licensed K–5 teacher with five years in Title I schools, teaching classes of 22–26. Raised the share of 3rd graders reading on grade level from 45% to 68% using small-group guided reading and weekly progress monitoring. ESL endorsed and trained in restorative practices.

Skip vague objectives like "seeking a rewarding position to inspire young minds". Committees already assume you care about students; the summary should prove you can teach them. If you are changing careers into teaching, lead with your certification route and subject knowledge, then one transferable result.

How do you show student results on a teacher resume?

Good teacher bullets combine an action with evidence. Useful measures:

  • Achievement: state or district assessment growth, AP or IB pass rates, benchmark gains, reading levels.
  • Course outcomes: failure rates, grade distributions, credit recovery completions.
  • Engagement: attendance, assignment completion, club or team results.
  • Families: conference attendance, contact frequency, survey responses.
  • Leadership: teachers mentored, units or assessments written, committees led.

Report class- or grade-level figures only, never individual student information, and be ready to explain your numbers in the interview. If you lack data, describe scope instead: "designed a 6-week statistics unit taught by four teachers to 300 students".

How should a new teacher present student teaching?

List student teaching as your first experience entry, with the school, grade, subject, dates and weeks:

Student Teacher, 2nd Grade – Lincoln Park Elementary, Aug–Dec 2026 (16 weeks)

  • Planned and taught a 4-week fractions unit for 24 students; 20 met the end-of-unit goal.
  • Ran daily guided reading groups at three levels using running-record data.

Add substitute teaching, tutoring, summer camps and paraprofessional work as separate entries. They prove you can manage a group of real students. Our student resume example covers more first-job structure.

Which teaching certifications belong on a resume?

In the U.S., public school teachers need a state-issued license for their grade level. Requirements vary, but the BLS says they generally include a bachelor's degree, student teaching, a background check and passing general and subject tests, and every state offers alternative routes for career changers.

List each license as state, license type, subject, grade band, expiry. Add endorsements (ESL, gifted, special education), advanced credentials such as National Board Certification, and relevant training like AP Summer Institutes. If certification is in progress, say so plainly: "Alternative licensure candidate, expected June 2027".

How do you make a teacher resume ATS-friendly?

Many school districts accept applications through online systems that parse your resume into fields, so use one column, standard headings and plain text. Use the district's own terms where they are true for you, such as "multilingual learners" or "English language learners", "PLC" or "professional learning community".

How a teacher resume changes by country

US & Canada

Use a one- to two-page resume with your state license, subjects and grade bands near the top, and no photo. In Canada, teachers are certified provincially, for example through the Ontario College of Teachers, so list your certification number or status and any additional qualifications. Many districts and boards also ask you to complete their own online application form.

UK & Ireland

Write a two-page CV with a personal statement, though many schools use their own application form. In England, qualified teacher status (QTS) is a legal requirement in maintained schools, while academies and independent schools may employ teachers without it (GOV.UK). In Ireland, show your Teaching Council registration. Name key stages and GCSE or A-level results, and mention safeguarding training and an enhanced DBS check. See UK CV format.

Gulf (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar)

International schools hire by curriculum, so lead with the system you teach: British (IGCSE, A level), American (AP, Common Core), IB or CBSE. Check whether the school's regulator (such as KHDA in Dubai or ADEK in Abu Dhabi) requires a teaching license or attested degree. Include nationality, visa status and notice period; see UAE resume format and Qatar CV format.

India

Most school teaching posts ask for a B.Ed, and many require a CTET or state TET qualification, so list both with year. Name the board you teach (CBSE, ICSE, IB or state board), your classes and subjects, and board exam results for your students. See our India CV format.

Common teacher resume mistakes

  • Writing duties every teacher does ("planned lessons, graded tests") instead of student results.
  • Omitting the grade levels, subjects and class sizes, so the reader can't judge fit.
  • Leaving certification, endorsements or expiry dates off the first page.
  • Including student names, photos of students or other identifiable information.
  • Using teaching jargon or program names the district may not know, without a short explanation.
  • Sending the same resume for elementary and secondary roles without changing the emphasis.

Frequently asked questions

One page works for new teachers and most classroom teachers with under ten years of experience. Department chairs, instructional coaches and teachers moving into administration can use two pages. In the UK and many international schools, a two-page CV is standard, often alongside an application form.
Include your GPA only if you are a recent graduate and it is strong, roughly 3.5 or higher, or if the district asks for it. Licensing exam scores are usually not needed on the resume, because districts verify certification separately. List the license itself instead.
Give it its own entry with the district, dates and the grade levels or subjects you covered. Add bullets for long-term assignments, such as "Covered a 7th grade science class for 10 weeks, teaching all units and grading". Long-term placements carry real weight with hiring committees.
Yes, if the portfolio is tidy and current. A simple site or shared folder with a sample unit plan, assessment and anonymized student work lets principals see your planning. Put the link in your header and make sure it works without a login.
Combine instructional skills (differentiation, assessment, classroom management, co-teaching) with the technology the district uses, such as Google Classroom, Canvas or PowerSchool, and any languages you speak. Back up the most important ones with a bullet in your experience section rather than listing them alone.
Usually, yes. Many districts and international schools ask for one, and it is your chance to explain your teaching approach and why that school. Keep it to one page with one concrete classroom example. See our teacher cover letter example.
