Sales Manager Resume Example (2026): Template, Summary and Skills

By EZProCV Editorial Team · Updated

This sales manager resume example is for people who lead a sales team or are ready to: top reps stepping into a first manager role, regional and national managers, and sales directors moving between companies. You get a complete resume as text you can copy, summaries for three levels, before-and-after bullets and the keywords recruiters search for.

Sales leadership hiring comes down to one question: will this person make the number with the team they inherit? The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics describes the job as setting sales targets, analyzing sales data, forecasting, preparing budgets and running training programs (BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook). A good resume proves each of those with numbers, not adjectives.

Read the sample first, then use the sections below to adapt it to your own sales motion, whether that is field, inside, channel or retail.

Quick answer: A strong sales manager resume opens with a summary that states your team size, quota and headline result, then lists each role with bullets that prove revenue growth, team quota attainment, forecast accuracy and coaching. Add CRM and forecasting tools to a skills section, keep it to one or two pages, and mirror the job ad's wording so an applicant tracking system (ATS) finds you.

How to write a sales manager resume summary

Your summary is three or four sentences at the top that answer: what kind of sales do you lead, how big is the team, and what did it deliver? Use this order:

  1. Title and years of experience, including years managing people.
  2. Team size and sales motion (field, inside, channel, retail).
  3. One headline result with a before-and-after number.
  4. How you get results: coaching, forecasting, process.

Sales manager with 9 years in SaaS and 4 years leading inside sales teams of up to 12. Grew new-logo bookings 41% to $9.8M while keeping forecasts within ±5%. Builds repeatable discovery and deal-review habits that make new reps productive fast.

Lead with the team's number, not your personal sales. A hiring manager is buying your ability to multiply other people's results.

What results should a sales manager resume show?

Pick the metrics your next employer will judge you on and show the base, the change and the time frame.

Metric How to phrase it
Team quota attainment "9 of 11 reps at or above plan; team at 108% of $22M"
Revenue or bookings growth "Grew regional bookings from $18.2M to $27.6M in three years"
Forecast accuracy "Quarterly forecast within ±5% for six quarters"
Ramp time "Cut new-rep ramp from 7 months to 4"
Retention of sellers "First-year rep retention up from 60% to 86%"
Win rate and cycle length "Win rate 22% to 31%; cycle 94 to 71 days"
Cost of sale or budget "Ran a $1.4M budget; cost of sale down 4 points"

If your company treats revenue as confidential, use percentages, ranks ("first of 8 regions") or ranges instead of dollar figures.

Which skills belong on a sales manager resume?

BLS lists analytical, communication, computer, customer-service, interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills as the important qualities for sales managers, and notes that they use CRM and spreadsheet software to track sales and build forecasts. O*NET's technology list for the role includes Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics and Tableau (O*NET OnLine).

On the resume, keep the skills section to 10–15 items and split it in your head into three groups:

  • Commercial: forecasting, pipeline management, territory planning, pricing and negotiation.
  • People: hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, compensation plans.
  • Tools: the CRM, sales engagement and reporting tools named in the job ad.

Then prove the most important ones inside your bullets. "Sales coaching" in a list is a claim; "raised reps at quota from 58% to 86% with weekly call reviews" is evidence.

How do you move from sales rep to sales manager on a resume?

Most sales managers are promoted from selling roles; BLS notes that employers usually prefer several years of sales experience. To show you are ready before you hold the title:

  1. Put leadership work into your current role's bullets: mentoring new hires, running team meetings, covering for your manager.
  2. Quantify the people you helped: "onboarded 6 reps; 4 hit quota in their first full quarter".
  3. Show process thinking: a playbook, a qualification checklist or a CRM dashboard others now use.
  4. Keep your own quota results, but cut them to the best three or four.
  5. Write a summary that names the target role, as in the entry-level example above.

If you held an official team lead title, list it separately with its own dates so the promotion is visible.

How to format a sales manager resume for ATS

Use a reverse-chronological layout: newest role first, one or two pages, standard headings (Summary, Experience, Skills, Education). Put dates on the right of each role and keep numbers as digits so they stand out on a fast scan.

An ATS reads text, so avoid putting key information inside images, text boxes or charts, and use the exact job title from the ad where it honestly fits ("Regional Sales Manager", not "Revenue Ninja"). Our guide to making your resume ATS-friendly covers the details.

To build this resume, pick a layout from the EZProCV templates, replace the sample text with your own and download a text-based PDF. If you already have a resume in PDF or DOCX, you can import it and edit it instead of starting again.

How a sales manager resume changes by country

US & Canada

Call it a resume, keep it to one page under about ten years of experience and two pages for senior roles, and leave out photo, age and marital status. BLS reports a median annual wage of $148,270 for sales managers (May 2025) and projects 4% employment growth from 2025 to 2035, with about 47,300 openings a year (BLS). In Canada, list French if you sell in Quebec.

UK & Ireland

Employers say CV: two pages, a short personal profile instead of a US-style summary, no photo, and figures in £ or €. The National Careers Service lists sales manager pay from £28,000 (starter) to £70,000 (experienced) and notes that a record of meeting targets is often valued above academic qualifications (National Careers Service). See the UK CV format guide.

Gulf (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar)

Gulf CVs often include a photo, nationality, visa status, notice period and a driving license, which field sales roles frequently need. Name the GCC markets you covered, distributor and key-account relationships, and Arabic if you have it. EZProCV has optional fields for these details; see the UAE resume format and Saudi Arabia CV format guides.

India

Show targets in INR (lakhs or crores) and name the channel you managed: distributors, dealers, modern trade or direct enterprise sales. Recruiters commonly ask for current CTC, expected CTC and notice period on the application form, so have them ready even if they are not on the CV. See the India CV format guide.

Common sales manager resume mistakes

  • Listing only your personal sales numbers. As a manager, lead with the team's attainment and how you lifted it.
  • Percentages without a base. "Grew revenue 30%" means more as "grew revenue from $18M to $23.4M in two years".
  • Leaving out forecast accuracy. Leadership teams plan around your forecast; if yours is reliable, say so with a number.
  • Duty lists instead of results. Replace "responsible for managing the team" with what the team achieved under you.
  • Hiding a promotion. Give each title at the same company its own line and dates so the step up is obvious.
  • One generic version for every job. Tailor the summary and top bullets to the industry and sales motion in the ad.

Frequently asked questions

One page works if you have under about ten years of experience. Most sales managers with several roles and a management track record need two full pages. Go beyond two only for very senior executive roles, and cut early selling jobs to two or three bullets each so the space goes to your leadership results.
Include them if you still carry a personal number or if you are moving from rep to manager. Once you lead a team full time, put team results first: total attainment, share of reps at plan, growth and forecast accuracy. One line on your own key-account wins is enough after that.
Be honest and show context with numbers. You can lead with metrics you did move, such as win rate, pipeline coverage, ramp time or retention, or compare your region with the company average ("92% of plan vs. 81% company-wide"). Be ready to explain the cause and your fix in the interview.
BLS says a bachelor's degree is typically needed, often in business, though some positions accept a high school diploma. In practice, employers weigh sales experience and results heavily. If you have no degree, lead with quantified results and add any formal sales or management training you have completed.
Yes, when the application allows one. Use it to connect one or two of your best team results to the company's situation, such as a new territory or a struggling region. Keep it under a page. The EZProCV cover letter builder and our cover letter guide can help.
Use percentages, rankings and ratios instead of dollar amounts: "grew bookings 52% in three years", "first of 8 regions for attainment", "forecast within ±5%". You can also round to safe ranges. Never share client names or figures you signed an agreement to protect.
